UNC Charlotte Police Department Re-Accreditation Process

Categories: General News

In order to maintain the stringent requirements of accreditation established by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the UNC Charlotte Police Department must undergo an assessment every four years. The department first earned this international distinction in 2016. It will once again undergo an onsite assessment June 17-19, 2024.

In addition, the UNC Charlotte Police Communications Center gained a separate accreditation status in November 2021. This year, the Communications Center will synchronize with the rest of the department and undergo an onsite reassessment during the same time frame.

As part of this process, students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in providing feedback to the accreditors. A CALEA accreditation public comment portal is available on the Police website. Any public feedback, commendations or concerns for either the department or Communications Center can be noted there.

Any questions regarding this process may be directed to Lt. Stephanie Klein at sklein5@charlotte.edu or 704-687-8300.
