Weather Preparedness Workshop

Categories: General News

The National Weather Service’s Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, Weather Forecast Office held an Integrated Warning Team Workshop at The Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte Center City last week. NWS was joined by UNC Charlotte’s Emergency Management team and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management Office.

Emergency Management Director Kevin Martin, along with graduate student intern Caleb Winslow, presented during the workshop on how NWS information is used in higher education for event planning, and campus emergency preparedness and response. Martin and Winslow discussed how NWS information guides their daily tasks in emergency management.

The workshop culminated in a tabletop exercise, which focused on coordinated response efforts to weather-related emergencies — further strengthening Charlotte’s preparedness and connections for weather events.

Martin ’97 was named the director of Emergency Management in March. Winslow ’24 will complete his Master’s in Public Administration with an emergency management concentration at Charlotte in May 2027.
