PPS Communications Center awarded Communications Accreditation

Continuing the “international gold standard of public safety,” the communications center of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Police Department has been awarded Communications Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

The accreditation follows a rigorous self-assessment process that began with a review of policies, practices and processes against internationally accepted public safety standards, and an assessment by independent assessors. Additionally, public feedback was received to promote community trust and engagement. The decision to accredit was rendered by a board of 21 commissioners.

CALEA Accreditation is a continuous process and serves as the foundation for a successful, well-managed, transparent, community-focused public safety agency. Under the new four-year assessment model, the department will undergo annual, web-based assessments and a site-based review in 2025.

Charlotte is one of only five university police departments to earn dual CALEA accreditation.
